Ford Electrical Diagnostics

Ford uses a Body Control Module (BCM), a Gateway Module (GWM), and the SYNC infotainment system running on the APIM module. Immobiliser and keyless systems, the Restraint Control Module (RCM) for airbags, and electric power steering all communicate over the vehicle network. The Transit and Transit Custom have their own well-documented BCM fault patterns. Ford diagnostics use IDS/FDRS and FORScan for extended access.

Ford Control Modules & Electronics

Key modules and electronic systems used across Ford vehicles. Correct identification of the module is the first step in proper diagnosis.

BCM — Body Control Module

Central body electronics; Transit BCM faults are a known pattern.

GWM — Gateway Module

Network gateway; communication faults cause multiple warnings.

PCM — Powertrain Control Module

Engine and transmission management.

APIM — SYNC Infotainment

SYNC touchscreen and connectivity; freeze and reboot faults.

RCM — Restraint Control Module

Airbag and SRS system.

PSCM — Power Steering Control Module

Electric power steering.

ABS Module

ABS and traction control.
