ECU Repairs & Programming
Modern vehicles rely on dozens of interconnected control units — engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag, body and convenience modules — each carrying configuration data, security coding and software specific to that vehicle. When an ECU fails, simply swapping the part is rarely enough. We provide ECU and control module diagnostics, replacement, data cloning and programming to manufacturer standards.
When You May Need ECU Repairs or Programming
Common reasons customers come to us for ECU and control module work include:
What We Handle
Module Replacement
When a control unit has genuinely failed, we advise on the correct replacement and carry out the full fitting, programming and configuration so the new module is properly matched to the vehicle — not just physically plugged in.
Data Cloning from Old Units
Where suitable, we can read the data from your old, failed ECU or module and clone it onto a replacement unit. This transfers the vehicle's original configuration, coding and security data, often avoiding the need for expensive dealer-level programming from scratch.
Vehicle Customisation
We carry out coding and customisation to manufacturer standards — enabling or configuring features correctly for your specific vehicle, so that any changes match the standards and procedures the manufacturer would use.
ECU & Module Diagnostics
Before any replacement is recommended, we diagnose the complete system — power supplies, wiring, communication networks, inputs and the module itself — to confirm the ECU has actually failed rather than another fault triggering the same symptoms.
Data Cloning from Old Units
When an ECU or control module fails, its stored data — configuration, coding, immobiliser and security information — is often lost with it. Buying a brand-new module from a dealer and programming it from scratch can be expensive and isn't always necessary.
Where the old unit can still be read, we can extract its data and clone it onto a suitable replacement. This transfers the original configuration and security coding directly, so the replacement behaves like the original unit and the vehicle recognises it without a full from-scratch programming session.
Not every failed module can be cloned — it depends on the fault and the condition of the old unit — so we always assess first and advise on the most suitable option for your vehicle.
To Manufacturer Standards
Any coding, programming or customisation we carry out follows the manufacturer's procedures and standards for your specific vehicle. That means the right configuration, the correct security matching, and the proper calibration — not a generic workaround.
Using dealer-level diagnostic equipment and security access, we ensure that replaced or cloned modules are correctly integrated so the vehicle operates as the manufacturer intended.
Our Diagnostic Approach
A fault code pointing at a module doesn't mean the module has failed. Power supplies, wiring, communication networks and sensor inputs can all produce the same symptoms. We diagnose the complete system before recommending any replacement.
Once a genuine module failure is confirmed, we carry out the replacement, cloning or programming work correctly.
- Full vehicle diagnostic scan of the affected system
- Control module communication checks
- Power supply, earth and wiring testing
- CAN and network diagnostics
- Live data analysis and input/output testing
- Confirmation of whether the module has genuinely failed
- Data recovery and cloning from the old unit where possible
- Replacement module selection and correct part matching
- Programming, coding and security matching
- Final calibration and configuration to manufacturer standards
Suspect ECU or Module Fault?.
Don't replace an expensive control unit based on a fault code alone. OBD_PAL can diagnose the system, confirm whether the module has genuinely failed, and carry out the correct repair — replacement, data cloning, programming or coding — to manufacturer standards.
