CAN Bus & Communication Networks in Telford

Every modern car is a network of computers talking to each other over CAN, LIN, FlexRay and increasingly Ethernet. When that network breaks — a twisted pair shorted, a module locking the bus, a gateway mis-coded — you get a car full of faults that look unrelated but share one cause. We diagnose the communication networks themselves, not just the codes each module happens to log.

Common Symptoms

If you are seeing any of the following, it points to a can bus & communication networks issue we can diagnose:

  • Multiple unrelated warning lights across different systems at once
  • 'No communication with [module]' codes appearing across the car
  • Whole subsystems dropping out — e.g. all comfort functions, or the dash going blank
  • A module replaced and now other modules stop talking
  • Intermittent faults that only appear after the car has been running a while
  • Gateway or coding errors after a module swap

Common Causes

Faults like this rarely have a single cause. The usual culprits we find are:

  • A failed module pulling the CAN-High or CAN-Low line down
  • Wiring damage shorting a bus pair together or to ground
  • Gateway or central coding misconfigured after a replacement
  • Termination-resistor faults on the network ends
  • A single shorted component locking the whole LIN sub-bus

How We Diagnose CAN Bus & Communication Networks

01We scope the CAN and LIN buses physically to see the signal, not just read the codes.
02Faulty modules are isolated by disconnecting the network in sections until the bus recovers.
03Gateways are re-coded and variant configuration restored after any replacement.
04We verify the full network topology is intact before clearing any codes.
