Instrument Clusters in Telford
The instrument cluster is more than a set of gauges — it is a control unit on the CAN network that holds immobiliser data, mileage and configuration. A failing cluster can mean a dead dash, flickering gauges, a blank display or even a non-start if it is part of the immobiliser chain. We diagnose cluster faults, repair where possible, and code any replacement so the car accepts it.
Common Symptoms
If you are seeing any of the following, it points to a instrument clusters issue we can diagnose:
- Dashboard completely dead or no backlight
- Gauges (speedo, revs, temp, fuel) dropping out or reading wrong
- LCD / TFT display flickering, pixellating or going blank
- Cluster replaced and the car won't start (immobiliser link)
- Warning lights staying on after the fault is fixed
- Intermittent cluster that works when warm but fails when cold
Common Causes
Faults like this rarely have a single cause. The usual culprits we find are:
- Failed backlight inverters or dead pixels on older clusters
- Cold-solder joints on the cluster PCB
- Water ingress behind the dash
- Cluster CAN communication fault
- Immobiliser data lost when a cluster is swapped without coding
How We Diagnose Instrument Clusters
01We diagnose whether the cluster is the cause or a victim of a supply / CAN fault.
02Where the PCB is repairable we rework it rather than replace it.
03Replacement clusters are coded, configured and, where required, immobiliser-linked to the car.
04Mileage and configuration are transferred correctly where the law and procedure allow.
